What Is Varithena?

Varithena is an FDA-approved, nonsurgical treatment for varicose veins. This treatment may be ideal for patients with:

  • Large or bulging varicose veins
  • Vein-related leg discomfort
  • Cosmetic concerns about visible veins

Varithena provides an effective alternative to more invasive vein procedures while offering long-lasting relief.

What to Expect During Varithena Treatment

Varithena is a simple outpatient procedure performed in our office. The process typically takes less than an hour and doesn’t require sedation, but Dr. Berry administers local anesthesia before your procedure.

Dr. Berry injects a small amount of the microfoam into the targeted vein. The treatment requires as little as one or two needle pricks, depending on how many veins need treatment.

The foam expands inside the vein and redirects the blood to healthier blood vessels. The treated vein collapses. The foam moves into your bloodstream, and you flush it out over time. Your body also disposes of the old vein tissue, leading to smoother, clearer legs over the next few months.

Varithena doesn’t require stitches, but you’ll have a bandage over injection sites.

After Varithena Treatment

You can walk immediately, and most patients resume regular activities that day. Dr. Berry provides specific post-treatment directions, such as keeping your bandages dry and wearing compression stockings. He encourages walking and avoiding long periods of inactivity, as it helps you heal and restore healthy blood flow.
